Ronald J. Stoney, M.D. is emeritus professor of surgery at UCSF, where he was associated with Drs. Jack Wylie and Bill Ehrenfeld in the practice of vascular surgery for over three decades. He has served as president of the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, North American Chapter, and the Western Vascular Society. In 1982, he co-founded VascularCures - The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research (formerly known as the Pacific Vascular Research Foundation) to improve patient care and prevent death and disablity from vascular disease. Dr. Stoney has received numerous awards, including the Society of Vascular Surgery's Lifetime Achievement Award. He has lectured around the world, has published more than 100 book chapters and more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, and authored and co-authored more than a half dozen books and manuals on vascular medicine.
Charles (Chuck) Adams is the Chief Financial Officer at Manna Energy Limited. Previously, Chuck was the Chief Financial Officer of BioPro Pharmaceutical, Inc., an oncology pharmaceuticals company. Educated at the University Of Virginia and the Graduate School Of Business, Stanford University, Chuck's international corporate experience includes Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of United Medical Industrial Group, a San Francisco-based pharmaceuticals company with three joint venture operations in China, President of Zacson International, Chairman and CEO of Xatrix Interactive Entertainment, and Chief Financial Officer and a Director of Omni Hotels. Chuck served as a board member of several private companies and has been a featured speaker at conferences sponsored by organizers as diverse as the Institute for International Research and Cisco Systems.
James R. Bancroft , a former partner in Bancroft & McAlister, Attorneys at Law, San Francisco. Mr. Bancroft is President and a trustee of the Harvey L. Sorensen and Maud C. Sorensen Foundation and a director of the California Urology Foundation. He is a former trustee and vice president (1952-94) of The Dean Witter Foundation. Mr. Bancroft was Chairman of United Nuclear Corporation from 1972-1982 and Madison Capital, Inc. from 1986-1993. He has been a Director of VascularCures since 1991 and served as Chairman from 1992 through 1999.
Russell (Rusty) Bromley is the Chief Operating Officer of the Myelin Repair Foundation, where he has been instrumental in the creation and evolution of the Accelerated Research Collaboration™ model. His expertise includes the creation and protection of innovative technologies, business development, and marketing strategy for high tech and life sciences. Previously, he served as CEO of LabVelocity, Inc., an internet information portal for the life science research community, and CEO of Berkshire Holding Corporation, a privately-held, multinational manufacturer of contamination control materials for microelectronics and pharmaceutical production. In addition, Rusty's experience includes 17 years with American Hospital Supply Corporation and Baxter Healthcare, in both the distribution and diagnostics businesses, culminating with seven years as President of the Burdick and Jackson Division. Rusty holds a degree in Biochemistry from Rice University.
Timothy A.M. Chuter, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UCSF where he directs the Endovascular Program. He has given over 200 presentations on the endovascular management of aortic aneurysms at national and international meetings, co-edited a book on endovascular prostheses, and published more than 100 papers or book chapters on a variety of topics. Dr. Chuter is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society of University Surgeons, and the European Society for Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. He sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of Endovascular Therapy. His honors and awards include the Kinmonth medal from the Royal College of Surgeons.
Michael S. Conte , MD is the Professor and Chief, Division of Vascular Surgery at UCSF. Previously, he was the Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Director of Vascular Surgery Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was also Co-Director of the Clinical Trials Group at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, a joint initiative of Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Harvard School of Public Health. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous book chapters and reviews. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery ande has served on the scientific advisory board of several biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Circulation, and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Vascular Medicine, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, and Vascular.
Tarek M. Ebeid is an Audit Partner at KPMG LLP in the firm’s Financial Services practice in San Francisco, California. Mr. Ebeid is a firm designated Securities and Exchange Commission and International Financial Reporting Standards reviewing partner. He is also the Western Regional Coordinator for KPMG’s international Financial Derivatives Review program. Mr. Ebeid has 17 years of experience serving public companies in a variety of industries including financial services, telecommunication, technology, real estate, manufacturing, and transportation. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as a national instructor for KPMG’s educational programs and has received several national instructor excellence awards.
Eric J. Hall, CFA is a veteran financial executive with venture capital investing and management, finance and accounting, and treasury management experience. He is currently a Principal with the Financial Leadership Group, LLC, and previously a Partner and Chief Financial Officer of McKenna Capital LLC in San Francisco. He served as a consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co., as Principal Planner for Amdahl Corporation, and as VP and Portfolio Manager with Wells Fargo Bank, Private Banking. He also served as the founding Chief Operating Officer and/or Chief Financial Officer for Yahoo!, ImagiNation Network, women.com, and other Internet-related companies throughout Silicon Valley. Eric has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California, Davis, and a Masters in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Hall is a Chartered Financial Analyst and member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco, the CFA Institute, and Financial Executives International, as well as a former lecturer in International Financial Management at the University of California Extension, Berkeley. Eric served previously as Co-Chair, Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee of VascularCures’ Board of Directors.
Michael W. Hall is a Partner at the law firm of Latham & Watkins. Mr. Hall represents emerging growth companies, both public and private, and has broad experience in venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions and public securities practice. Mr. Hall's clients range from life science companies to those involved in a variety of technology segments such as software and electronics. He also represents underwriters in public offerings and venture capitalists in private equity financings and has taught classes at Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Hall was a founder and Director of the Venture Law Group and partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall).
Wendy R. Hitchcock is the Chief Executive Officer at VascularCures. Previously, Ms. Hitchcock consulted to the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of California, San Francisco and was the Chief Business Officer and Executive VP of Finance and Corporate Development at Mercator Medsystems. Ms. Hitchcock has 25 years of experience building and financing companies, including 20 years in the life sciences. She was CEO of LabVelocity, Senior VP Operations and Finance at Affymax, CFO at ACLARA BioSciences, VP Corporate Development for Keravision, and CFO for SyStemix, a pioneering stem cell company. Ms. Hitchcock received her BA from Brown University and an MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Virginia Madden first joined VascularCures’ Board of Directors in 1998. Mrs. Madden has had extensive involvement in community service projects in the East San Francisco Bay area. She actively participates in many community organizations and charities and manages the family’s personal charity. A former teacher, Mrs. Madden is also concerned with the needs of children who have conditions that are disabling or who suffer from parental abuse.
Robert W. Thompson, M.D. is Vice-Chairman of Research, Department of Surgery and a full Professor of Surgery, Radiology, Cell Biology, and Physiology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1996 he received the first Wylie Scholar Award in Academic Vascular Surgery from VascularCures. During his tenure as a Wylie Scholar, he discovered a novel therapy that reduces inflammation and prevents, or markedly slows, aneurysm growth. Dr. Thompson’s investigation could result in a drug, now in clinical trials, that may revolutionize our treatment of a major vascular disease and possibly replace current operative procedures. These findings have resulted in significant independent funding from the NIH and the NHLBI. A specialist in thoracic outlet syndrome, Dr. Thompson has operated on a number of high-profile athletes. He has published nearly a dozen books and book chapters, written numerous articles and holds several patents.
